Grant Gillespie hopes Hamilton’s last-gasp Scottish Cup win over Kilmarnock will help their efforts to stay in the Premiership.

In the second added minute of a dire fourthround clash at Rugby Park on Saturday, the Accies right-back was fouled by Killie debutant Karleigh Osborne inside the home penalty area and substitute Rakish Bingham converted the spot-kick to give the visitors a welcome win.

Martin Canning’s side sit 11th in the Premiership, one point above bottom side Inverness Caley Thistle, with only two wins out of 21 league games.

Gillespie and his teammates enjoyed the feeling of victory for the first time since a 1-0 win over Aberdeen in October and he is looking for the same next week against St Johnstone at Mcdiarmid Park.

“This season it has gone against us in terms of conceding a few last-minute goals,” he said. “So it was nice for it to go for us this time. It has been a while since we have had a win but it is a great feeling and hopefully we can get a run in the cup and the win builds confidence.”

Killie manager Lee Clark gave debuts to his five new signings. Freddie Woodman took over from regular keeper Jamie Macdonald and the two other 19-year-old Newcastle loanees, Sean Longstaff and Cal Roberts, also played.
