Former MSP backs calls for BBC Alba funding
A leading former SNP MSP says proper investment by the BBC in Scotland’s creative sector is more important than a Scottish Six
Andrew Wilson, now chair of the SNP’S growth commission, backed a call for further backing for BBC Alba.
Yesterday writing in The Scotsman, ex Labour MP Brian Wilson argued the Gaelic TV channel reaches far beyond those who speak the language.
He said: “Although its raison d’etre is as a Gaelic broadcaster, BBC Alba reaches 700,000 viewers each week.
“It accounts for half the commissions in Scotland from independent production companies.
Responding to the article, Andrew Wilson tweeted: “[BBC Alba] & proper investment in creative sector by BBC matter more than Scottish Six.”
