Perez should be banned by PGA Tour over ‘FORE’ failures
It really is time for tournament officials to grow a pair and hammer every single professional golfer who fails to shout “fore” when it is blatantly obvious that a wayward shot is heading towards spectators.
In fact, I’d urge them to ban Pat Perez from his next scheduled event on the PGA Tour after the American’s shocking lack of respect for the traditions of the game during the Genesis Open in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Driving at the par-4 12th at Riviera Country Club, Perez carved his tee shot to the right and even moved a couple of paces to his left as the ball was in the air to see where it was heading.
Yet, he didn’t even think to yell “fore” as it clattered the head of an unsuspecting fan and, lo and behold, ignored the need to do so again when he hit someone else on the leg just three holes later.
It’s a joke that players think it’s enough to say “sorry” by signing a glove for spectators injured in such circumstances and fair play to Shane Lowry for calling out culprits like Perez.
“What’s it gonna take for players to start shouting fore,” wrote the Irishman on Twitter.
“A signed ball or glove is no good to anyone if they are seriously injured???”
Hitting players with strong punishments is the only way to stamp out something that has slowly crept into the game and really needs to be stopped sooner rather than later.
