I am a Scotsman born and bred and, until this week, a proud one. Never have I been ashamed of my nation or nationality but the cowardly and dastardly act committed by Nicola Sturgeon has caused me to seriously reconsider. Since the days when I lived in Kilsyth and my next door neighbour was an SNP member, I have always argued that Scotland cannot stand alone in a highly competitive world and now, to an even greater degree, that argument still stands.

The SNP has but one policy and that is to break away from the UK and declare independence but, if and when the country ever were to become independent of the UK, the SNP will have to ask “Now what do we do and what do we stand for?” Under their mismanagement our education system, once revered throughout the world, is now failing. In all other areas where the Scottish Government, under SNP leadership, has control, we have seen falling standards and failing institutions.

For them it is and always has been “independence at any cost”. They will bankrupt a country which already depends on hand-outs from Westminster. For decades they have trumpeted the North Sea oil argument but with the price of oil falling to under $50 a barrel their economic model totally falls apart.

Let’s be very clear. Scotland needs England! It needs access to its markets, its institutions and within the UK, we have security in defence and the fight against terrorism.

Make me a proud Scotsman again, Scotland, and reject this nonsense once and for all. HARRY L TEE CBE
