Alexander Blackman, known as Marine A, has been given a seven-year sentence for the manslaughter of a hurt Taleban fighter. Having served three and a half years and having behaved well in prison, it’s likely he will be released within weeks. @Kernow_journo reported: “Claire Blackman says: ‘this is the moment we have all been fighting hard for’. @optimiseinprime said: “It’s about time... Alexander Blackman’s imprisonment was so nonsensical that I’m surprised it wasn’t made into a series!” @royneary tweeted: “Great news, but this hero should have never gone to prison. I hope he sues and appeals to have this travesty sentence quashed.” @Debbielou75 countered with: “Feel uncomfortable about the Marine A outcome. He killed a man. Not something to celebrate.”
#LEGSIT
The Daily Mail’s front page, which focused on the legs of Prime Minister Theresa May and Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, came under fire from the public and politicans. @Ed_miliband tweeted: “The 1950s called and asked for their headline back. #everydaysexism” @Petewishart noted: “Scottish Daily Mail has different headline. Would be good if they thought they couldn’t get away with that 70’s nonsense in Scotland.” @annaturley added: “Stayed up till 1am reading Select Cte papers last night. But cldnt find any decent tights today. I’m getting this politics thing all wrong.” @Michellemone defended the Mail: “You know I’m all for women but come on,stop getting ur knickers in a twist. More important things to worry about #nicelegs”
#NORTHERNIRELAND
Northern Ireland’s powersharing assembly must be run by a combination of a Unionist party and a Nationalist party. With no agreement between the two biggest parties the UK Government has had to intervene. @markdevenport said: “James Brokenshire tells MPS he’s keeping close contact with NI Civil Service but adds current situation is ‘not sustainable’.” @Sjamcbride tweeted: “Sinn Fein has said there can be no return to direct rule.” @Tracey_utv added: “Brokenshire says the consequences of failing to reach agreement yesterday are ‘potentially extremely serious’”
