Edinburgh’s Ecometrica makes top billing

An Edinburgh software specialist that uses satellite data to map the effects of climate change has landed a place on a list of Europe’s fastest growing companies.

Ecometrica, which was founded in 2008 and has been busy expanding its geographic presence and headcount, has been ranked 388th on the FT-1000 listing. Its placing was based on revenue growth of almost 300 per cent in the three years to 2015.

The entry follows what has been described as a “stellar” 12 months for the firm, which saw it post record sales and clinch further deals with Nasa and the UK Space Agency. Ecometrica also has offices in Boston, London, Montreal and Mexico.

Chief executive Gary Davis said: “As we continue to grow rapidly, I expect we will be on this list for years to come.

“Our latest phase has seen us focus on export markets and expand geographically, especially in the Americas.

“We will continue to focus on satellite mapping, and I’m sure that growth will be an ongoing part of our story as more and more governments, organisations and industries wake up to the power of geospatial data and satellite mapping.”

The firm’s satellite mapping technology is now being used to protect some 300 million hectares of tropical forests after it secured £14.2 million for its Forests 2020 project from the UK Space Agency’s International Partnership Programme.

Davis added yesterday: “Our platform never stays still and we are constantly thinking of new ways to adapt and improve it.” 0 CEO Gary Davis has been focusing on export markets
