Tributes paid to victims by city’s footballer­s, music stars and actors

Pop stars, celebritie­s and actors connected to Manchester shared messages online following the atrocity.

David Beckham, who played for Manchester United, posted on Facebook: “As a father and a human what has happened trulysadde­nsme.mythoughts are with all of those that have been affected by this tragedy.”

Liam Gallagher, former frontman of Manchester band Oasis, wrote: “In total shock and absolutely devastated about what’s gone down in Manchester. Sending Love and Light to all the families involved LG x”, and Johnny Marr, former guitarist with Manchester band The Smiths, tweeted: “Manchester stands together.”

New Order and former Joy Division bass player Peter Hook wrote: “My daughter made it home safe from Ariana Grande. Myheartgoe­souttoallp­arents and those involved. Manchester stay strong. X”

Coronation Street stars have spoke of their devastatio­n. The soap’s official Twitter account led the tributes with a post that read: “We love Manches- ter, it is our home. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by last night’s tragic events.”

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney tweeted: “Devastatin­g news this morning. Thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.”

His former teammate at Old Trafford, Cristiano Ronaldo, shared an image of the Union Jack with “Manchester” written across it on Twitter.

Both of the city’s football clubs shared messages on social media sending their thoughts to those affected, as did Ajax, who United are due to face in the Europa League final tonight.
