Foodies will be in seventh heaven as Crail festival reveals menu of delights

Meet the faces behind some of Scotland’s best artisinal food and drink at popular event in East Neuk of Fife

With a host of local flavours, tastings, children’s activities, the opportunit­y to meet the makers and the now famous Sunday Lunch at the Harbour, the Crail Food Festival is set to return on 10-11 June across six venues in the picturesqu­e village in the East Neuk of Fife.

The popular festival, which is now in its seventh year, will offer visitors the chance to meet the faces behind some of Scotland’s best artisanal food and drink including whisky and gin from Kingsbarns Distillery; chocolates from Charlotte Flowers and the Pittenweem Chocolate Company; bread from master bakers, Barnetts Bakery; delicacies and homegrown fruit from Balgove Larder and Ardoss Farm Shop; and much more.

Guests will also be able to taste and try before they buy at the Indoor Food & Drink Market in the Crail Community Hall, while street food will be also be on offer at the Crail’s Marketgate area.

Music, local craft beer and eating will be the order of the day with hot dishes like wood-fired pizza, gourmet toasties, savory wraps and traditiona­l barbecued meats, chocolate and other local treats all on offer.

Family-run farm shop Ardross will co-host the Cookery Theatre, at the Crail Kirk Hall, with a schedule of local chefs and food producers revealing the secrets of producing great food and drink. Hands-on cookery teacher Jenny Thomson and acclaimed chef Justin Maule will be offering demonstrat­ions on the Saturday and Michelin-starred Geoffrey Smeddle and ice cream maestro Owen Hazel from Jannettas Gelateria appear on the Sunday.

On the Sunday, the hugely popular Lunch at the Harbour returns, with festival-goers given the chance to select their lunch from a series of street food vendors, including shellfish, venison, fish and chips, and haddock smoked over a barrel.

For the duration of the festival, the seafront Marine Hotel will also be transforme­d into a space dedicated to children’s activities and comes complete with storytelli­ng, face painting and a fun children’s ceilidh, offered by Forgans of St Andrews. The Food Festival will open at 10.30am on the Saturday, with tickets costing £6 for an adult (entry for children is free). This day pass will then allow entry to all daytime venues and free parking.
