On a roll: Veteran sprints and tumbles towards victory in cheese rolling contest

-

Chris Anderson, centre, tumbles towards victory in the centuries-old Cooper’s Hill Cheese Rolling and Wake, an annual event held in the Gloucestershire village of Brockworth.

Hundreds of people took part in the quintessentially British event, chasing a 9lb round of double Gloucester cheese down a steep gradient, but Mr Anderson, a veteran of the race, emerged triumphant.

The 29-year-old’s appetite for the dangerous pursuit is purely sporting. He has said that he does not like double Gloucester as it is “too strong”. He intends to auction his winning cheese off for charitable causes.
