Rio revolt: Brazilians protest against scandal-hit president
Thousands of protesters calling for direct presidential elections in Brazil rally on Rio de Janeiro’s famous Copacabana beach. The incumbent, Michel Temer, has become engulfed in corruption allegations, a scandal which is threatening to cut short his brief presidency.
The country’s highest court is investigating Mr Temer for alleged obstruction of justice and involvement in corrupt payments.
Watchdog groups claim 60 per cent of the members of both chambers of the nation’s congress are under investigation for various crimes.
