War of words

-

Before penning his article (Scotsman, 29 May, “Why Corbyn is wrong to link terrorist threat with UK policy”) Brian Monteith should have watched last Saturday’s Channel 4 news item when Michael Fallon was interviewed by Krishnan Guru-murthy. In that interview Mr Fallon was taken to task over his condemnation of Mr Corbyn’s linking of UK involvement in wars in the Middle East to the radicalisation of young muslims. Mr Guru-murthy quoted the Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson’s, statements that he also considered overseas military engagements had given UK extremists the pretext to commit terrorist acts in the UK. Not surprisingly, given this Corbyn-esque view from his Cabinet colleague, Mr Fallon was lost for words.

Maybe Mr Monteith would care to reply to this on Mr Fallon’s behalf in his next article?

While he is doing so he may also care to comment on the effect of the cuts in police numbers by 30,000 brought in by this Tory government, despite the warning of the effects on security and counter terrorism by the Police Federation to the then Home Secretary Theresa May in 2015. Advice she dismissed at the time as “scaremongering”.
