Motorway upgrades go on until September

- By ALASTAIR DALTON

Drivers on the M8, M73 and M74 face possible offpeak disruption until at least September after most of the £500 million motorways upgrade is finished this week.

Economy secretary Keith Browntoldmspsyesterday the improved roads would be fully open by the end of the week, but remaining work would continue for about four months.

He said the snagging and finishing work “would not affect peak-time traffic flows”.

The Scottish Government’s Transport Scotland agency said later that the remaining work would have “little impact” on drivers.

A new section of the M8 replaced the A8 dual carriageway east of Glasgow last month, while extra lanes and improved junctions have been added to the M73 and M74 south east of the city.
