Keep Brexit soft
Like many who voted no to Scottish independence, I would have preferred the UK to stay part of the EU. However, Nicola Sturgeon is wrong when she says that only a vote for the SNP will discourage the pursuit of a hard Brexit. In fact the reverse is true.
Currently Theresa May has a small majority in Parliament and so the Brexiteers have a big sway in the way the Conservative party moves forward.
Despite what she is currently saying (for party and negotiating reasons), it is my view that the PM’S preference is actually for a soft Brexit .
By electing more moderate Conservative MPS, the Brexiteers will lose influence and a soft Brexit is far more likely. This is especially the case in Scotland, where Conservatives tend to be more sympathetic to Europe.
The exit from the EU is for all time, whereas a Westminster parliament only lasts five years.
