GOLDEN OLDIES WHO FLOURISHED IN SCOTLAND

David Weir Was 36 when he returned to Scotland from Everton in January 2007. Initially signed until the end of the season but such was his impact that he ended up playing for the Ibrox club until he was 40, helping them win three league titles in a row, lift domestic cups and reach the 2008 Uefa Cup final. Lubomir Moravcik ‘Lubo who?’ asked the Celtic fans when then manager Jozef Venglos signed his fellow Slovakian in 1998. Their scepticism was dispelled by his thrilling two-goal displayin a 5-1 dismantlin­g of Rangers a few weeks later. Moravcik was 33 when he joined Celtic but he enjoyed four successful seasons in Scotland, winning all domestic honours under Martin O’neill. Franck Sauzee A European Cup winner with Marseille, Sauzee strolled through Hibs’ First Division championsh­ip-winning season in 1999. Under his captaincy, Hibs more than held their own in the top flight and reached the 2001 Scottish Cup final. Sauzee was 33 when he signed and played for the Easter Road club for three years before being appointed manager following Alex Mcleish’s sudden exit to Rangers. The move upstairs didn’t work out but Sauzee is still cherished by Hibs fans. Claudio Caniggia Dundee stunned Scottish football with their audacious capture of the Argentina great in October 2000. Caniggia, then 33, had been a team-mate of Dundee assistant manager Dario Bonetti at Verona. His pace and guile were tremendous assets to the SPL. He moved to Rangers and had two successful seasons at Ibrox, helping them win the treble and also playing well enough to win a recall to the Argentina squad for the 2002 World Cup finals. Takis Fyssas Left-back had been a key member of the Greece side which won Euro 2004. He arrived at Hearts for the memorable 2005-06 season, helping the Gorgie club to a second-place finish in the league and a Scottish Cup triumph.
