Stein says Brexit may disappoint fishermen

Celebrity chef Rick Stein said Brexit is unlikely to have the positive impact that fishermen crave.

Many of those in UK coastal communities have voiced their desire to leave the European Union due to concerns over depleting fish stocks.

Butthe Cornish-based chefsaid he had doubts about whether the vote to leave would result in a fillip for fishermen.

Mr Stein said: “The Cornish fisherman have this perception that the EU never had their interest at heart.

“I’ m not sure that’ s the case becauseI think the need for control of the fishing effort is important.”

He added :“There’ s an awful lot of ancient fishing rights, plus a lot of deals that go on - selling a quota and that sort of thing. But time alone will tell.”
