Rod Stewart backs bid to revive Leith Theatre

Rod Stewar t, The Proclaimer­s, Trainspott­ing star Ewen Bremner and Garbage singer Shirley Manson have thrown their weight behind a bid to bring a derelict concert venue back to life after three decades.

They have agreed to become of f i c i a l a mb as s a d o r s fo r a ca m p a i g n t o re s t o r e Le i t h Theatre, which once played host to the likes of AC/ DC, Thin Lizzy, Slade and Kraftwerk, to its former glory.

Trainspott­ing author Ir vine We ls h an d di r e c t o r Da n ny Boyle have already endorsed the campaign.

The new ambassador­s have been revealed during the temporar y reopening of the theat re f or t he t en- day Hidden Door Festival, which has seen ar t i s t s t a ke ove rt h e e n t i r e building.

I t was gifted to Leith f rom th e c i t y a f t e r i t s c o n t r ove r - sial amalgamati­on with Edinburgh in 1920, but was closed down in 1988 due to its declining condition.
