SUPER TOURERS RACING BACK TO KNOCKHILL
So me of the most iconic motors in touring car history are making a return to Knockhill this weekend as the Super Touring Car Championship heads to Fife.
After a successful visit last Septemberthe classic race series is back, bringing some of the most famous cars and drivers from the sport’s 1990s heyday.
Two- time British Touring Car Champion John Cleland will be back in his famous Vauxhall Vectra. He’ll be hoping for better luck than last year when engine trouble ruled him out of racing after an impressive qualifying performance.
He’ll be joined by the likes of Colin Turkington, Tony Absolom and Derek Palmer.
This year’s championship has also added a fleet of other classic vehicles to its line - up. Alongside the 1990s icons such as Cleland’s Vectra, the Nissan Primera, Audi A4 and Renault Laguna will bean umber of newer 2.0-litr eBB TC cars including the early 2000s MG ZS and Honda Integra.
Stuart Gray, Knock hill director of events said :“With a record entry of 15 Super Tourers including cars from BMW, Ford, Honda, Nis san,Volvo and Audi, we are over the moon that the championship is coming north with more numbers than last year.
“In addition to a quality grid on track, the pit lane garages will feature a whole host of special exhibits that will be on display and being paraded too.
“The complement of racers and show cars will attract race fans from all over.
Formula One cars in the shape of an ex Nelson Piquet Benetton and Fernando Alonso Renault as well as a F 3000 of Laurent Aiello will also be gracing the circuit.
The teams will be arriving in Scotland from Friday onwards for testing and unusually, the Super Tourers will have one race on Saturday and one race on Sunday, makingit a full weekend of action.
