The Scotsman

Stronger voice

-

Viewlands Road West, Perth Kezia Dugdale’s claim that SNP MPS are found wanting at Westminster (The Scotsman.com, 31 May) is complete nonsense as on average each SNP MP spoke in Westminster debates 61 times during 201516 whereas on average in 201415 Labour MPS from Scotland only spoke in 27 debates and SNP MPS claimed less in expenses than their Labour

predecessors two years earlier. She should also know that written questions at Westminster are for backbenchers while frontbench MPS, like Angus Robertson and Joanna Cherry QC, have direct access to government ministers to raise issues.

SNP MPS will be the strongest voice for Scotland’s interests at Westminster. It was the SNP who provided the most effective opposition to the Tories over Brexit, draconian welfare policies, pension changes and other Tory U-turns while most Labour MPS seemed more interested in getting rid of Jeremy Corbyn, whose manifesto has copied many of the SNP’S progressive policies.
