Killie ready to unveil Mcculloch, while ex-striker Coulibaly makes ‘slave’ claims
Kilmarnock are expected to confirm Lee Mcculloch as their manager on a permanent basis today.
The 39-year-old former Scotland midfielder moved to Rugby Park from Rangers as a player-coach in 2015 and worked as No 2 to Gary Locke and Lee Clark. When Clark quit to take over at Bury in February, Mcculloch took charge on a temporary basis until the end of the season.
He subsequently guided the club to eighth place in the Premiership table, finishing six points above the play-off position.
Mcculloch’s first competitive assignments will be the first-round group fixtures in the League Cup in July. Kilmarnock have been drawn in Group E with Annan, Ayr United, clydeanddumbarton.
Meanwhile, former Killie striker Souleymane Coulibaly, who left Rugby Park for Egypt in a £750,000 deal in January, has gone AWOL from his new club Al Ahly, claiming they have treated him like a “slave”.
Al Ahly want Fifa to ban Coulibaly but the forward said on Twitter: “I’m not crazy. I left for a reason. My passport was held hostage. I was forced to do what I was told, for example bow down and pray every time I scored.
“I left without saying because I had to flee the first chance I had a hold of my passport.
“They treated me like a slave all because of money. My peace of mind and safety are what is most important to me.”
