Scooter Gennett equalled a Major League Baseball record by whacking four home runs in the Cincinnati Reds’ 13-1 rout of the St Louis Cardinals. Gennett had his eye in as he became just the 17th player in the history of MLB to achieve such a feat, while also driving in a franchise-record 10 runs. The Houston Astros’ 11-game winning run is over after they lost 9-7 to the Kansas City Royals. The Astros were on course for a 12th win on the bounce as they led 7-3 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, before the Royals produced a late turnaround. Whit Merrifield hit a three-run double in the eight to help tie it at 7-7 before Mike Moustakas’ two-run homer with two outs in the ninth won it.
