Fuglsang pips Froome in sprint finish

-

Denmark’s Jkoba Fuglsang won a sprint finish ahead of Richie Porte and Chris Froome on stage six of the Criterium du Dauphine around Mont du Chat.

BMC rider Porte moved into the overall lead with a 39-second advantage over Team Sky’s Froome heading into today’s mountain stage to L’alpe d’huez.

Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) was the first to attack before the summit, but Fuglsang’s Astana teammate Fabio Aru took Mont du Chat as leader.

Froome regained ground on the descent before Fuglsang attacked under the flamme rouge of the last kilometre, but could not shake his rivals as they were back together again for the final 500m.

But as all three pushed for the line, Fuglsang had enough left to edge in front, with Froomein third just ahead of Aru. “It could have gone a lot worse,” said Froome afterwards.
