Watering veg

-

The watering season has begun in earnest and vegetables will need much of your time. Water them in the evening to minimise evaporation.

If the ground is already really dry, sprinkle the surface before doing the proper watering a few minutes later, once the sprinkled water has penetrated. The first dampening wets the surface and reduces water lost from surface run-off.

Obviously, water is allimportant to crops, but there are certain vegetables which you shouldn’t overwater or they will underperform.

However, you must water all newly planted and sown vegetables for a few weeks until they are established, and those grown in containers, daily, if necessary.
