Room
It’s a story with echoes of horrific reallife cases involving the capture and enslavement of young women; and now Emma Donoghue’s acclaimed 2010 novel has been adapted for the stage by Donoghue herself, in a show produced by the Abbey Theatre and Theatre Royal Stratford East, in association with the National Theatre of Scotland. Directed by the NTS’S Cora Bissett, with music by award-winning Scottish singersongwriter Kathryn Joseph, Room, above, promises a powerful and sometimes beautiful tale of a woman, her young son and their hidden life; catch it during its brief Scottish run at Dundee next week, or miss what could be one of the most memorable shows of the year.
