Ex-leader hints that he’ll be back Robertson and Nicolson ousted
Former First Minister Alex Salmond was the biggest scalp for the Conservatives as he saw his majority of 8,600 overturned in a night of election drama in Scotland.
But the EX-SNP leader struck a defiant note after his loss in Gordon, quoting from a Jacobite song to his supporters: “You’ve not seen the last of my bonnet and me.”
The leading light of the nationalist movement was among a clutch of senior SNP figures who suffered demoralising defeats in northern Scotland, with Angus Robertson ousted in Moray and Eilidh Whiteford in Mr Salmond’s former Banff and Buchan constituency seat.
The strong pro-brexit vote among the fishing community hit SNP support and prompted a resurgence in the traditional Conservative areas.
