Ferry across the Hudson: Boat could save commuters from ‘summer of hell’

-

A commuter ferry crosses the Hudson River to New York City as officials warn of a “summer of hell” for commuters amid a series of planned track repairs at the city’s Penn Station.

Some believe that ferries may be the answer for commuters sick of clogged roads and an unreliable rail system. However, while New York Waterway could accommodate thousands more commuters from New Jersey, it does not receive state or federal subsidies and so has to charge more than buses or trains. Governor Andrew Cuomo last month offered a $1 million prize for new ideas to improve New York’s subway system.
