Renewed silence

-

The letter from Alan Thomson ( Scotsman, 12 June ) reinforces the surprise expressed in a recent article by Lesley Riddoch that there was no debate during the election campaign on the impact that the renewable generators have on the Scottish economy.

For example, there was no mention of the fact that 40 per cent of Scots are living in fuel poverty or the failure by MSPS to meet their pledge to eliminate such poverty by the end of 2016. Nor was there any discus- sion on the fact that the Scottish Grid depends on obtaining 92 per cent of the bill of the green levy funds from English and Welsh consumers – an arrangement that would be illegal come independence.

Nor did we get any mention of the fact that the well-off, the wealthy or the rich receive billions from the FIT scheme, the RHI scheme and the ROC scheme which means the only group that pays into the green levy funds and receive no pay-out in return are the 40 per cent of Scots living in fuel poverty.

Why do Conservative, Labour and Liberal MSPS not form an alliance to transfer the cost of the green levy funds to the taxpayer and thus remove the bill from those living in fuel poverty and ensure that those receiving massive cheques from the green levy funds pay a higher percentage of the subsidy bill ?
