Manchester Arena stays closed until September

- By ELEANOR BARLOW

The Manchester Arena will remain closed until September following the terror attack which killed 22 people, it has been announced.

The venue has been closed since the attack on 22 May, when suicide bomber Salman Abedi, 22, detonated a device as concert-goers began leaving a show by the US singer Ariana Grande.

A statement published on the arena’s website yesterday said: “Following last month’s devastating attack on the city we are now working towards reopening Manchester Arena in early September.

“Whilst it was always our intention to honour our existing summer events, the damage caused to the main public area outside of the arena has left us with no other option than to remain closed until September.”
