Hotting up down under: Natural and discarded sewer heat could be used for renewable energy

-

Scottish sewers contain enough heat to warm a city the size of Glasgow for four months a year, figures released todayshow. The report – produced by Scottish Water Horizons for Scottish Renewables – says water in UK sewers can be as warm as 21C throughout the year. Scottish Renewables said 921 million litres of wastewater and sewage were flushed down Scottish toilets and plugholes every day, and the latest figures “show how heat pumps and wastewater recovery systems could be used to harness that energy potential”.
