Teen ‘killed baby after attack on mother’

A teenager is to stand trial in Glasgow charged with killing a five-day-old baby boy. The 17-year-old is said to have caused the death having assaulted the child’s pregnant mother.

It is claimed the woman, who was the accused’s partner, suffered “placental abruption” resulting in the baby being born by emergency caesarean section. The birth occurred on the day of the alleged attack in Kilmarnock, on 3 November. Prosecutor­s claim as a result of the placental abruption the baby was was so severely injured he died five days later in hospital.
