City big hitter joins EY Scottish Item Club
The influential EY Scottish Item Club has appointed Howard Archer, a well known City of London figure, as its chief economic adviser.
Archer, who was previously chief UK and European economist at IHS Markit for 17 years, is succeeding Dougie Adams, whohasbeensenioreconomic adviser to the EY Scottish Item Club for 14 years and who retires this summer.
Archer will also assume the role of chief economic adviser to the UK EY Item Club, the only independent forecasting agency to use the economic business model of the Treasury.
Archer, who was previously chief European economist at the Standard & Poor’s ratings agency, said: “I am proud to be joining the EY Scottish Item Club and EY Item Club at what is a pivotal time for the Scottish, UK and global economy.

A report earlier this month by the forecasting agency gave warning that Scotland’s economy is showing signs of slowing faster than the rest of the UK.
