We can do double over Zimbabwe, Scotland spinner de Lange predicts

- By DAVID KELSO

Scotland spin star Con de Lange is ready to prove that his side’s big-stage triumph over Zimbabwe on Thursday was no flash in the pan.

The sides go into battle again in Edinburgh today with the hosts keen to repeat their feat of two days ago, when they grabbed their first-ever One Day International success against a Test nation.

And vice captain de Lange reckons that the ability to “absorb pressure” will be the key to completing a remarkable double.

De Lange claimed five wickets to play a major part in the historic win at the Grange, where the sides meet again today.

And as he stepped up preparations for the rematch, he said: “Thursday was nerveracking but very enjoyable because that is what we train for.

“The batsmen performed really well by absorbing the pressure before expressing themselves.

“As a bowler, it always makes it easier when the opposition are having to chase more than 300.”

De Lange was backed up by skipper Kyle Coetzer, whose brilliant century laid the foundations for Scotland’s victory.

But Coetzer will order his history makers not to drop their guard.

He admitted: “In the past we have struggled to keep up the momentum after a good victory.

“We have become notorious for not turning up second time around, so the big aim is not to let that happen again.”
