Loretto juniors lift the Kensington Trophy

A mixed group of talented young golfers from Loretto Junior School won the Under-12 Team Trophy at the Independen­t Associatio­n of Preparator­y Schools National Championsh­ips at Hill Valley Golf Club in Shropshire.

Loretto Junior School’s Grace Crawford, Samuel Mukherjee, Oliver Mukherjee, Alex Rate, Molly Paton and Glen Crawford clinched the prestigiou­s Kensington Trophy for the top team in the age group.

The championsh­ip was made up of 94 competitor­s representi­ng 37 schools from all over the UK.

Jonathan Hewat, director of communicat­ions at Loretto School, said, “This was a magnificen­t achievemen­t by the pupils and I do congratula­te them all.

“A strong start by Grace (20 points) and Samuel (18 points) gave the team the lead at the halfway stage with Alex (16 points) also performing particular­ly well in his first major competitio­n.

“After a short lunch break, the players headed out for the second nine holes where some excellent scoring enabled them to move up the leaderboar­d.

“Strong scoring by Oliver (22 points) and Glen (22 points) helped the A team clinch the Under-12 team title, while Molly finished with a string of three birdies to round off a wonderful debut appearance.”
