Vote for who?

-

John V Lloyd objects to Tommy Sheppard being described as ”top SNP MP” (Letters, 19 June). If we wish to point fingers as to how individual politicians are defined by the media, perhaps we should look at Murdo Fraser MSP.

He is described regularly as a “senior Conservative” but should more correctly be described as the “Never Elected Conservative MSP”. Mr Fraser has been an MSP for 16 years and has never once won an election. Five times he has put himself forward for MSP and twice in the starting blocks for Westminster, losing on every occasion. He has even gone back to the scene of the original crime, losing again with an even lower share of the votes.

While we are on the subject of definitions, we should perhaps look at Ruth Davidson’s “comeback”. Of her 31 MSPS, 24 are list, with losses in the constituency vote of between 3,900 and 12,000. Without the D’hondt Method she would have seven MSPS. The SNP would still have 59. Spot the difference?
