#QUEENSSPEECH

Her Majesty”s choice of headwear at the State Opening of Parliament yesterday became an unlikely Brexit talking point, given its apparent similarity to the EU flag. @karrcomedy said: “The level of insanity in England has reached Defcon 4 – it’s just a hat to match her outfit, people” @Writerinpyjamas commented: “I can’t believe the only hope I’ve felt for weeks has come from The Queen” @karen25389 added: “Ace trolling, Your Majesty. The royal version of dropping the mic” @Weinkaiser offered: “What a hat! What a sign! What a statement! Thank you Queen Elizabeth!”

#JEREMYCORBYN

The Labour leader’s apparent decision not to bow during the opening of Parliament has once again attracted much comment. @Dpmcbride observed: “Hmm, just looked at 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016 Queen’s Speeches; no bowing from either leader. 2013 the exception” @paulwaugh added: “Labour sources say Corbyn was right not to bow for #Queenspeech, May was the one breaching protocol” @nicolethepeach offered: “MPS are not meant to bow to the Queen. Why are people going to act like Jeremy Corbyn did wrong yet again when it was May?” @webbswonder said: “He wouldn’t bow even if it was protocol”

#TAXISTOTROON

Glasgow black cab drivers staged their 72nd annual charity fundraising drive to Troon on the Ayrshire coast yesterday, with a convoy of decorated vehicles taking children with special needs for a day at the seaside. @amyhelen85 said: “Watching #taxistotroon go by the office is my favourite day of the year – hope you all had a great trip” @BTDJMDT added: “The last time I saw the parade was over 20 years ago. It shows that there are good people who care about others. Giving back. Beautiful” @Ditchprop commented: “Well done all involved in #taxistotroon – terrific Glaswegian generosity and humour personified. Hope the rain didn’t dampen the spirits” @Mccreadiestevie offered: “The taxis from Glasgow with all the kids just went right past my flat. Fantastic to see them all enjoying themselves”
