Your 21 June headline announced incorrectly that “EU court rules Russia’s ‘gay propaganda’ ban breaches human rights”. The decision was actually made by the European Court for Human Rights, which is the court of the Council of Europe, and which was interpreting the European Convention on Human Rights; these institutions are distinct from and predate the treaties and institutions which evolved into the European Union with its European Court of Justice.

Unfortunately, confusion is bound to continue as both courts sit in Strasbourg and as the European Union has an institution called the European Council.
