Mccann hands Spence a Premiership chance
Dundee manager Neil Mccann has handed midfielder Lewis Spence his chance to make the grade in the Ladbrokes Premiership.
The former Dunfermline youngster has agreed a oneyear contract with the Dark Blues after quitting the Pars earlier this summer.
Mccann, who was recently appointed as permanent boss at Dens Park following his brief stint towards the end of last season, knows Spence from his time as a coach at East End Park, and he believes the 21-year-old deserves the opportunity to prove he can cut it in the top flight.
Mccann said: “I’ve seen enough of Lewis in my time at Dunfermline that suggests I wanted to give him a chance here at Dundee.
“I want to work with him to try to realise the potential that I saw in him.
“He knows he is going to have to work extremely hard to force his way into my first eleven but if you take our new vice-captain Cammy Kerr for example, it shows how far you can go in a short space of time with drive and determination given the opportunity.”
Spence becomes Dundee’s third summer capture following the earlier signings of Scott Allan and Roarie Deacon.
The Taysiders have also handed defender Kostadin Gadzhalov a new one-year deal.
The 28-year-old Bulgarian is the second player this week to have agreed new terms with the club after Kerr also put pen to paper.
Gadzhalov joined the Dark Blues in January 2015 and featured 19 times for the club last term.
Mccann saw enough in the two appearances he gave the centre-back in May to decide that he was worth a fresh agreement.
