Tea company aiming to top up presence in Scotland

-

A global high-end tea company is looking to grow its number of Scottish stores after opening a site on Glasgow’s Buchanan Street.

Nicky Sparshott, global chief executive of Australian-based T2, told The Scotsman while visiting the store that Edinburgh and Aberdeen are in its sights. “We tend to find our home in key cities… it all comes down to finding just the right location,” she added.

The plan is to open about four or five stores north of the Border over the next few years. “Tea’s always been popular and certainly in this part of the world it’s quite a wellentrenched habit,” she said. This may be mainly “builder’s brew” but green tea, matcha and French Early Grey are proving particularly popular in Scotland, she added.

T2 moved outside its domestic market in 2014, and has grown into New Zealand, various UK sites such as London and Sheffield, the US in New York and Boston, and into Asia, setting up in Singapore as a gateway to this market.
