Death of a Salesman
When the much-loved British star Tim Pigott-smith died suddenly, in April this year, it was just days before the scheduled start of the UK tour of this major production of Arthur Miller’s 1949 masterpiece, in which he was to have played Willy Loman. The production went ahead, though, with veteran stage and screen actor Nicholas Woodeson stepping up to one of the great tragic roles of 20th century theatre; and this week, the production is playing its only Scottish dates in Edinburgh, as Abigail Graham directs this iconic tale of an ordinary middle-aged American overwhelmed by a growing sense of his own worthlessness.
