Grotesque failure
Members of my organisation were horrified to learn that an independent review into the case of Peter Ball – the former Bishop of Gloucester, who was jailed in 2015 after admitting a string of historical sex offences against 18 teenagers and young men – has found that the Church of England “concealed evidence” and “colluded” to protect Ball from prosecution. There can be no more grotesque an example of religious privilege than the law tiptoeing politely away from Church assurances that they’ll “sort it themselves”.
