Winger Pennant training with Hibs

Former Arsenal, Liverpool and Stoke City winger Jermaine Pennant is training with Hibernian.

The 34-year-old, who has commanded over £10 million in transfer fees, is a free agent after leaving English League One side Bury at the end of the season.

Pennant trained with Hibs in November after a spell in the Singapore top-flight with Tampines Rovers, but opted to join Bury instead. At the time Hibs manager Neil Lennon revealed an offer had been tabled for the much-travelled 0 Jermaine Pennant: Wearing Hibs kit in social media post. wide-man and he has now resurrecte­d his interest as he seeks to beef up his attack for the club’s return to the Premiershi­p. Hibs have sold top scorer Jason Cummings to Nottingham Forest, lost James Keatings to Dundee United and freed Grant Holt from last season’s squad, whilst winger Alex Harris was released and has joined Falkirk.

Pennant made just two starts and seven appearance­s for Bury after joining in January.

He posted a photo of himself in Hibs training gear on social media yesterday with the message: “A broken man… damn that was horrid.”

Meanwhile, Hibs are close to completing their move for keeper Ofir Marciano.

The Israel internatio­nalist spent last season on loan from Ashdod and has a year left on his contract there. But a deal to sign him permanentl­y has been struck and Hibs are expected to put the finishing touches to the move this week.
