Man dies after being hit by truck on island

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a truck in Orkney.

Police were called to the accident on the A896 Dounby to Twatt road on the island at 10:10am yesterday.

Police Scotland say a man in his 50s died after being hit by the truck. The road remains closed while investigations are carried out.

A spokesman said: “We can confirm that, sadly, the male pedestrian died at the scene. Next of kin have been made aware. The road will remain closed until collision investigation has been completed.”
