Worlds oldest land register marks 400th year with new Glasgow office
The new offices of Registers of Scotland have been officially opened as the organisation celebrates its 400th anniversary.
Economy Secretary Keith Brown opened the new premises at Saint Vincent Plaza in Glasgow yesterday.
The opening is one of many activities that have been organised to celebrate the anniversary of the General Register of Sasines – it is the world’s oldest national land register which is held on behalf of the people of Scotland by the Keeper of the Registers of Scotland. 0 Makar Jackie Kay marked the occasion with a poem
Scotland’s Makar Jackie Kay has also written a speciallycommissioned poem to mark the anniversary.
Sheenagh Adams, Keeper of the Registers of Scotland (ROS), said: “We are delighted to welcome the Cabinet Secretary today in what is a landmark year for ROS and a jampacked week, celebrating not only our rich history but also our next steps towards a digital future.

Earlier in the week, three previous Keepers of the Registers of Scotland joined her at a dedication of artwork in Ros’s Edinburgh headquarters.
