SEP funds purchase of key Tilbury wind farm

- By SCOTT REID

Scottish Equity Partners (SEP) has funded the acquisition of an onshore wind farm at the Port of Tilbury in Essex from Scots utility giant SSE.

Glasgow-based SEP made the investment through its Environmental Capital Fund (ECF), which is targeted at infrastructure projects in the energy sector.

The wind farm comprises four 80-metre turbines which have been operating continually since the facility was commissioned in 2013. Together they generate sufficient renewable energy to cover 50 per cent of the electricity demand of the vast port.

Financial terms surrounding the acquisition have not been disclosed.

Verena Rathgeber, a principal in SEP’S infrastructure team, said: “Port of Tilbury is a high quality operating wind farm and securing this asset marks a significant milestone for the fund.”

ECF recently provided equity funding for the construction of wind farm in Ireland.
