Two records smashed after 12-hour charity ride

An ultra-marathon athlete bagged two world records and raised thousands of pounds for charity after a 12-hour cycle.

Katie Ford completed the gruelling challenge at the Chris Hoy Velodrome in her home city of Glasgow.

The 31-year-old covered 190 miles in the saddle to raise awareness around epilepsy – which she developed at the age of four.

The Scot’s heroic efforts saw her climb off the bike with two world records and one British record. Ms Ford claimed the world’s female six-hour and eighthour indoor track cycling records, but fell short of the 12-hour record.

Speaking afterwards she said: “I feel ecstatic, I am absolutely over the moon. I can’t believe I’ve done it. It really was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.”

Ms Ford raised more than £15,000 for Epilepsy Action and Edinburgh Children’s Hospital.
