Scots deliver double blow to Ireland
It is not often a Scottish team has completed the double over Ireland at any level in recent years, but the men’s under-21 side did just that with a 2-1 win in the second test match in Belfast yesterday.
It was not an auspicious beginning for Graham Moodie’s charges when Ireland took an early lead through a penalty corner. But within a minute the Scots youngsters were back level, Grove Menzieshill’s Cammie Golden launching a fierce reverse stick shot low into the far corner of the net.
Despite Irish domination in the second quarter the score remained 1-1 at the interval.
The Scots took control in the second half and were rewarded when a pass by Joe Mcconnell was brilliantly deflected home by Rob Harwood to take a fine victory.
Meanwhile in Lillieshall, Scotland’s under-21 women went down 4-2 to England in the final Test match, thereby losing all three games in the series.
