0 The Mariner field is one of the largest projects currently under development in the UKCS Some 1,500 offshore jobs will be supported by the next phase of the Mariner development in the North Sea, operator Statoil said yesterday.

The posts are related to the hook up and commissioning activity which will run from this summer, leading up to the start of production on Mariner in the second half of 2018.

The field is located about 95 miles east of the Shetland Isles, and once in full production is expected to support 700 permanent jobs, both onshore and offshore.

Statoil Production (UK) managing director Hedda Felin said: “The Mariner development will create wider ripple effects in the supply chain for the next 30 years.

“We are privileged to be able to contribute towards job creation and the longevity of the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS).”

Mariner is one of the largest projects currently under development in the UKCS. Contracts worth more than £1 billion have been awarded to date to the UK supply chain by the project.
