Rees-mogg’s sixth child called Sixtus

Conservative backbencher Jacob Rees-mogg has announced the birth of a sixth child, called Sixtus Dominic Boniface Christopher.

In a picture posted on Instagram, the North East Somerset MP is dressed in a suit and tie to cradle his new-born son.

The choice of name is likely to prompt some debate, as baby-name books say that it is derived from a Greek name Xystus, meaning “polished”, and should not be confused with the Latin name Sextus, meaning sixth.

However, the sixth pope after St Peter took the name Sixtus, leading some to believe there is a link with the number.

A further four Roman Catholic popes have been called Sixtus, most recently Sixtus V, consecrated in 1567. 0 MP Jacob Rees-mogg has had a sixth child called Sixtus
