Since the dreadful Grenfell tragedy much has been said about the need for sprinklers to be retro-fitted to older tower blocks but they do have their own problems. If a scheme is installed to activate sprinklers throughout an entire block the damage due to floodwater throughout all the flats could be enormous; to activate only the affected flat could well save lives in that flat but with a fire
