Reaching the Goodwood Festival of Speed’s Forest Rally Stage isn’t easy. It’s a fair old hike from the main activities hub, but if you’ve never experienced it before we’d strongly recommend making the effort next year.
Every year, some of the most famous cars in rallying history are thrashed, skidded and flown through the specially laid out forest road course. It’s a who’s who of the sport’s iconic weaponry – and here are some of the best of them.
0 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE: Bob Beates’s 1958 car was the oldest to tackle the Goodwood rally stage
0 LANCIA STRATOS: A flying wedge designed specifically for rallying, the Stratos three World Rally Championship titles between 1974 and 1976
0 CHEVROLET FIRENZA: Powered by the Camaro’s 380bhp 5.0-litre V8 engine, this car was based on the South African version of the Vauxhall Firenza
0 MITSUBISHI LANCER WRC: Mitsubishi kept winning championships in its Group A Lancer when everyone else had switched to the WRC formula
0 DATSUN 260Z: The strongly-built Datsun did well on attritional events like the Kenyan Safari Rally. Steve Perez’s car is now used on the historic version of the event
