Unstable flares removed from Skye beach

A bomb disposal team has removed potentially unstable ten-year-old flares found on a beach.

A member of the public raised the alarm after discovering them at Greshanish, on the Isle of Skye, at around 4.30pm on Sunday.

The flares expired in 2007 and were considered potentially unstable because of their age and due to the fact they had been in water, the coastguard said.

The royal navy explosive Ordnance Disposal team from fas lane were called to the scene and removed the flares on Sunday evening to dispose of them safely.
